ABOUT BEHiND THE WALL MENTORS
Behind the wall mentors is a mentors group that focuses on rebuilding the urban communities across America, starting with the at-risk youth. It is the goal of Behind The Wall Mentors to encourage, teach and inspire the youth.
Hopefully preventing them from becoming live stock to the prison system; and letting them know someone cares and the odds of winning in the streets are slim to none. Currently there are 2.3 Million prisoners and with a revolving door to the prison systems the numbers are growing.
In 2018, there was *estimated* 2 million kids with a parent incarcerated, that’s 2 in every 100 kids. Its time to take a stand and inspire CHANGE and it starts with you. Goals For Behind The Wall Mentors
Explain the importance of a healthy work ethic. Teach resume’ preparation, interview etiquette and proper dressing. Explain how to properly function in the workplace and the importance of steady income. Explain how we are all capable of owning and operating our own businesses. Help Mentees to formulate ideas and turn them into reality. Also show what avenues (i.e. courses, trades, etc.) are needed to fulfill their ambitions.
Explain the importance of education, showing the possibilities of life after one receives their High School Diploma or G.E.D, and expressing the advantage of research and understanding. Showing how information is one of the greatest assets one can process.
BOND OF TRUST: It is of utmost importance to establish and maintain a trustworthy bond. This will allow the mentor and the Mentees to build a solid foundation that will serve as the cornerstone for a conducive relationship. Honesty, dependability and a non-judgmental attitude will be the key ingredient in creating this trustworthy bond
DECISION MAKING PROCESS: Providing a decision making process that’s uniquely divided into various aspects. Sound decision making shall be deeply rooted in (1) the ability to examine the totality of the situation, (2) to see things for what they are as opposed to what they seem to be, (3) to examine any and all possible outcomes, and (4) to formulate a decision based on rational. Emphasizing the importance of being held accountable for one’s decisions, and directing them in a positive manner.
MORAL & VALUE SYSTEM; To create and explain the importance of “High Morals & Principles” and “Value System”. Instilling high morals, principles and solid value system will create and establish a sense of high self esteem, and motivate one to be honorable and just, preventing victimization of activities that are fraudulent.
GOAL SETTING: Assist Mentees in setting up long term and short term goals. Explain how goal setting helps to secure a structured path towards success. Short term goals directed to the effects of life on a limited basis (i.e. High School Diploma, G.E.D, College, and Job Trade School) assuring one where he/she is heading.
